Student Council

The purpose of the Sacred Heart Student Council is to develop and demonstrate student leadership as well as promote service to the school and local community. The student council serves as the voices of its peers, providing a liaison between students and faculty/administration. The council also plans charitable and social activities for the student body throughout the school year.

Student council is composed of elected representatives from the student body. Elections for officers and representatives are held on an annual basis, customarily during the first month of each school year. Meetings and activities are held under the supervision of the sponsor or co-sponsors who are members of the school faculty. Candidates for student council offices are required to meet the eligibility standards for participation and must maintain personal standards worthy of a student role model.

The paw print

A production of student council, the Paw Print is a weekly documentary detailing student life and general information at Sacred Heart Catholic School. It is the mission of the Paw Print staff to inform and entertain all stakeholders including: students, parents, faculty and staff, alumni and friends, and the community at large. Student council is responsible for creating content, filming and recording, editing and posting all segments.

The Paw Print was started by our Student Council Sponsor, John W. Kintz, for the 2020-2021 school year. Although the student council is responsible for generating and producing content, everyone at SHCS is invited to contribute and/or collaborate with the Paw Print team. Past segments include: Faith at Work, The Senior Spotlight, What’s on Your Phone? and The Red Brick Ambassadors.

Letterman's Club

High school athletes may earn letters as part of the Sacred Heart Letterman’s Club for participation in sports. Letters are awarded at the discretion of the head coach of each varsity sport. The Sacred Heart Alumni Association awards letter jackets to students who have achieved multiple honors, earning seven athletic letters or a combination of nine fine art and athletic letters. For more information, please reference the SHCS Handbook (Sec.XII).

All students who are members of the Letterman’s Club are responsible for selling football program ads in the early fall. All program advertising sales go to fund travel and lodging expenses for extracurricular events including all Sacred Heart athletics, academic and fine art competitions.

Robotics

The Sacred Heart Robotics program has a long history that dates back to the early 2000s. It was a vital program that helped alumni learn coding, problem-solving, teamwork and engineering. Many alumni from this program went on to become engineers or STEM majors. However, the program paused for many years until it made a comeback in 2023, with Robotics Sponsor and HS Science Teacher Cassie Whitecotton leading the way.

The Sacred Heart Cyber Tigers are a team of students who have no prior experience in this field, but are ready to take on the STEM challenges that robotics presents with the support of their sponsors and volunteer mentors. Two notable mentors for the team are Austin Springer and Cassie Whitecotton. Despite having limited experience and resources, the team secured 14th place in the regional competition during their first year getting back into robotics.

The 2024 season promises to be a memorable one for the Sacred Heart Robotics team.
