High School

About

Welcome to Sacred Heart Catholic High School, where faith, academics and service intersect to prepare our 9th – 12th grade students to lead successful lives of purpose and service to Christ. With a commitment to academic excellence and a focus on character development, our high school students are inspired to embrace their faith, excel in their studies and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Our distinguished high school curriculum encompasses core subjects and dual credit opportunities alongside religious education. The curriculum is designed to foster a deep understanding of the Catholic faith while setting up students for academic success beyond their high school education.

Our small class sizes, averaging 10-20 students, create a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Additionally, our small classes enable teachers to implement innovative educational strategies and provide hands-on learning experiences for students.

Sacred Heart high school students are also encouraged to explore their God-given talents through extracurricular opportunities such as student clubs and organizations, athletics, fine arts, music and more. Whether it’s scoring the winning touchdown, competing in robotics or mastering a fine art, every high school student at Sacred Heart has the opportunity to excel both inside and outside of the classroom.

Faith Formation

At Sacred Heart, we have the privilege of instilling the faith in our high school students through the rich traditions and sacred teachings of the Catholic Church. Our educators are dedicated to forming students into young men and women who embrace their vocation as followers of Christ in the world, living out their faith with courage and integrity. High school students have the fortunate opportunity to attend Mass three times a week and receive theology instruction daily. They also attend Adoration on a weekly basis and are prepared for the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation. Additionally, seniors are taught religion class by Fr. Hoodenpyle, the Sacred Heart Pastoral Administrator. Opportunities for service and outreach through our high school Christian Ministry program further reinforces the call to discipleship.

Christian Ministry

At Sacred Heart Catholic School, we encourage each of our students to live beyond themselves and share their time, talent and treasures. We believe that Christian Ministry (also known as volunteer service) is an important component of religious instruction in that it provides experiences for students to grow in their faith and participate in serving our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Christian Ministry hours can be accumulated by a student when he/she willingly performs a service that is unpaid and is a benefit to another person, group or the community outside of regular school hours. Sacred Heart students are encouraged to seek volunteer opportunities not only during the school year, but also during the summer months when they may have more time.

In order to ensure that all students participate in volunteer service, SHCS has established criteria which must be met for high school graduation. A student must complete 25 hours of service by the end of 9th grade, 50 hours by the end of the 10th grade, 75 hours by the end of 11th grade, and a total of at least 100 hours must be completed by the end of senior year. Students’ CM service hours are logged and tracked through RenWeb. All service hours are monitored by administration and are to be signed off by the person for which they were performed or the student’s parent/guardian.

Below is a list of SHCS approved service opportunities and organizations for student volunteering. Students may also work with our administration to bring other service opportunities to Sacred Heart.

Vocation & Mission Trips

Sacred Heart high school students receive opportunities to attend vocation and mission trips, fostering spiritual enrichment and deepening their understanding of religious life. Some recent student vocation trips include:

  • Holy Angels Convent in Jonesboro, AR
  • Our Lady of Clear Creek Abbey in Tulsa, OK
  • Subiaco Abbey in Subiaco, AR
  • Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City, OK

Additionally, Sacred Heart has partnered with Catholic Mission Trips, Inc. to give our high school students the opportunity to attend an annual Spring Break Mission Trip to South Texas, serving and rebuilding homes for the less fortunate. This weeklong mission trip gives students the chance to fully engage with the needs of others and witness firsthand the transformative power of God’s love and compassion in action.

By stepping away from the distractions of everyday life on vocation and mission trips, Sacred Heart students are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God and discern their own spiritual journey.
